ROVERS
SERVICE
18 – 30 Years Old
Rovers is the fourth and final branch of Scouts South Africa’s youth programme, designed for young adults aged 18 to 30. This phase offers a unique opportunity for personal development, leadership, and meaningful service – both within the Scout Movement and the broader community.
The purpose of Rovers is to inspire self-training in citizenship and service, encourage members to pursue fulfilling careers, and empower them to make a lasting impact. This mission is expressed through a structured Advancement Programme that culminates in the prestigious BP Award, named in honour of Scouting’s founder, Lord Baden-Powell.
A group of Rovers is known as a Crew, and each Rover Crew is unique, tailoring its activities to the interests and goals of its members. Crews typically range in size from 3 to 15 members and are led by an elected Crew Council, with optional mentorship from an adult Rover Scouter.
Joining a Rover Crew offers young adults:
- A challenge to grow personally and professionally
- Opportunities to learn new skills
- A platform to serve their communities
- A space to build lasting friendships
Rovers thrive on a mix of adventure and service, participating in activities such as:
- Hiking, camping, and sailing
- Harbour cruises and inter-crew events
- Outreach projects and environmental initiatives
- National and international Scouting gatherings
This is where young adults continue their Scouting journey with purpose and passion. Rovers are leaders, changemakers, and adventurers – living the Scout Promise through action, service, and lifelong learning.
